GOTRAX GXL Commuting Electric Scooter – 8.5″ Air Filled Tires – 15.5MPH & up to 12mile Range

SUMMARY: The GoTrax GXL is one of the newest scooters on the market, and it’s making quite a splash in the industry. This gas-free, electric scooter is an excellent option for professionals on-the-go in the city or kids just looking to have a good time. The relatively powerful motor, robust build, and pneumatic tires make this scooter an excellent choice for commuters and off-roaders alike

GoTrax is a relatively new scooter company on the scene, but this doesn’t mean they put out inferior motor scooters. In fact, quite the opposite. The GoTrax GXL is an excellent choice if you’re in the market for a mid-sized scooter to commute to work, or just want to goof around a bit. Despite being a little on the heavy side, the GXL has a sturdy construction and performs well on the road. Similarly, the GXL’s weight carries a robust frame, making for a comfortable ride.

Additionally, the GXL rocks air-filled tires that are on the larger side, measuring 8.5”. These tires add to the comfortability offered by the GXL, making cracks, bumps, and minor obstructions a non-issue. What’s more, the GXL comes packed with unique features, like an awesome LED Display and manual back brake. That said, let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights of this scooter brought to us by GoTrax.

Key Features

As we said, the GoTrax GXL is built tough. Also, it’s super sweet that it comes nearly ready to ride right out-of-the-box. That’s right! The only thing you need to do to start riding the GXL is to attach the handlebars. However, don’t worry, the installation is fool-proof with the handlebars only connecting one way, and the only tool needed is an allen key (which is included).

What’s under the hood?

Of course, this is a figure of speech, as the GXL clearly doesn’t have a hood. However, the GoTrax Scooter does come with a 250-Watt motor, powered by a 36-Volt battery. Now, even though this motor is significantly smaller than many of the scooters in the same class, it performs quite nicely. With this in mind, this electric scooter also is suitable for riders up to 220 lbs. and has a top speed of 15.5 MPH. Not to mention, it goes 12.5 miles on one charge. It’s also important to note this scooter has two gear settings, one for a slower ride and one for a faster trip.

Hands down, one of my favorite features when riding this electric scooter is the tire-design. These air-filled, bad boys are 8.5” and ride like a dream. If you haven’t ridden an electric scooter with pneumatic (air-filled) tires before, then you’re in for a treat. Too many scooters have rubber tires without air, and it’s noticeable in the ride. Not only is there an added level of comfort with the GoTrax GXL, but the air-filled tires allow you to go over smaller obstructions and even take this puppy off-road.

Aside from these more noticeable features, the GXL has a bunch of smaller features that really add up to make one nice scooter.

For instance, the previously mentioned LED Display gives you information about your rides, such as current gear and current speed. In addition to the LED Display, the GXL comes equipped with reflectors on the front-and-back of the scooter for increased safety in the evening hours. Correspondingly, GoTrax tacks on a headlight to help you navigate the roads at night. So, GoTrax makes it easier for the rider to see while operating the scooter and makes it easier for other traffic on the way to see you riding. Even though these lights aren’t exactly going to bring a ship into port, they are nice to have if you regularly use your scooter at night.

Another nifty feature of the GoTrax GXL is its’ portability. Making up for the weight factor, the GXL has a mechanism which allows for it to fold for easy carrying. To the same effect, GoTrax includes a nice clip feature to keep the scooter folded up when you’re on the go.

Finally, the kick-stand offers a great feature if you are on-and-off the scooter regularly.

Now that we’ve looked at the great features that make up this electric scooter, let’s check out some of its pros and cons.

Pros

  • Solid Build
  • Relatively Good Performance
  • Awesome Tires

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Lights are Dim

For a reasonably priced scooter, the GoTrax GXL doesn’t have too many drawbacks.

Here’s a brief run-down of the GoTrax GXL’s specs:

  • Size: 40” x 15” x 8”
  • Weight: 30 lbs.
  • Tires: Pneumatic, 8.5”
  • Max Rider-Weight: 220 lbs.
  • Time to Recharge: Approximately 4-5 hours.
  • Battery: Lithium-Ion (36V)
  • Motor: 250-Watt.

In the End

The GoTrax GXL is an excellent mid-range scooter. Whether you need this electric scooter to get to work or just want to play around, the GXL is excellent for both children and adults. With a solid design and added safety features, you’ll feel comfortable putting your kids on the road or tackling the rush-hour traffic on your way to work. Although this scooter doesn’t have any mind-blowing features, it’s the culmination of all the little stuff you get with this bike that makes it a great buy. Check Price on Amazon.com

Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter with Li-Ion Battery, Black

SUMMARY: The Glion Dolly Electric Scooter is an excellent scooter that is built to last. This model is considered to be one of the most efficient scooters on the market, with the 36-Volt Lithium-Ion Battery not lacking in power either. This electric scooter is ideal for commuters because of its remarkable portability. Not to mention, no other scooter around can offer the patented technology that makes the Glion Dolly such a portable device.

The Glion Dolly Electric Scooter is an all-around great scooter; especially if you are in the market for a ride to get you to-and-from work. This scooter is made from the same type of aluminum used to build airplanes, and it’s built to last. Offering a nice and even ride, the Glion Dolly comes stock with 8-inch tires to combat cracks and bumps. In fact, this scooter was specially designed with commuters in mind and is considered the most efficient “last-mile” vehicle around.

Alongside its efficiency, the Glion Dolly is great for anyone that needs to bridge their commute with public transit. Specifically, the Glion has a retractable handle and can roll precisely like a roller-bag suitcase. Also, this vehicle’s 36-Volt lithium-ion battery packs quite a punch, driving the 250-Watt Motor effortlessly over a fair distance. Be that as it may, let’s look a little deeper into some of the features that define this electric scooter.

Key Features

Without a doubt, the most remarkable feature of the scooter by Glion is its folding capability. Not only does this electric scooter fold up into a nice-and-neat little package, but it also rolls like a piece of luggage. For many, this feature alone is enough to invest in the Glion Dolly Electric Scooter. As a matter of fact, no other scooter on the market has the portability features brought about by Glion in this electric scooter. You can stand it straight up, roll it down the street like a suitcase, and even pull it around with its unique trolley-like handle. However, Glion was sure to include other attractive features in this model to further “sweeten-the-pot.”

The Glion Dolly Foldable Scooter holds a 250-Watt, brushless motor, equipped with an anti-lock mechanism for peace of mind. The engine gets its juice from a 36-Volt, lithium-ion battery that can be charged at an incredible rate. Not only does this battery charge in just over three hours, but it’s been tested for over one-thousand charges. In a similar light, the lithium-ion battery used by Glion will last you for years to come (3-to-5 to be more precise)! What’s nice is that even when the battery does die out, Glion made replacing the battery a breeze. That right! When the battery dies, it doesn’t mean you have to back to the consumer reports to find the best new scooter. Just simply switch it out, and you’ll be ready to ride for another 3-to-5 years.

Another great feature of the Glion is the incredibly bright headlight which comes standard on this scooter. With its ability to light up the entire road ahead and an easy on-off, riding at night won’t present much of a problem on this scooter. Moreover, the manufacturer attached a tail reflector for added safety.

Built Tough!

As I said, The Glion Dolly uses airplane-grade aluminum in its build, making for very sturdy construction. What’s more, the frame is powder-coated so that it resists rusting and corrosion. Even though the scooter sits around 28 lbs., with its patented rolling feature, its weight is somewhat negligible when reviewing the overall characteristics of this vehicle.

Along with a healthy build, this scooter rocks 8 inches, patterned honeycomb wheels, initially designed for the military. Together with the active tread, these wheels will never go flat. Can you believe it? Of course, this ability to “run flat” is a trade-off where the lack of air lends to an, overall, bumpier ride. By and large, let’s take a peek at some of the benefits and drawbacks that accompany this electric scooter.

Pros

  • Ultra-Portable
  • Durable
  • Great Extras (i.e., bright headlight, kickstand, etc.)
  • Long-Lasting Battery

Cons

  • Clunky Throttle
  • Low Top-Speed
  • ZERO Suspension
  • Not Great on Hills

Specs

  • Weight: 27.3 lbs
  • Size (Folded): 36″ x 8″ x 12″
  • Size (Unfolded): 44″ x 16″ x 7″
  • Top Speed: 15 mph
  • Time-to-Charge: 3.5 hours
  • Max Distance: 15-miles
  • Max Rider-Weight: 250 lbs

All Things Considered

All-in-all, the Glion Dolly Foldable Electric Scooter allows for unmatched portability and is a well-designed mid-range scooter. Incredibly effective for commuting, it’s also highly durable and sure to last. Although the ride is somewhat rough, this scooter’s light-weight build and ultra-portability outweigh its lack of comfortability. I mean, which would you rather have? A comfortable ride? Or a scooter that you can take on the train or bus, while not being a burden at all? In the end, it’s up to you, but as far as commuting is concerned, this scooter has a lot to offer. This commuter-friendly ride has tons of features to get you to work on time and could be considered one of the best electric scooters in its class. Check Price on Amazon.com

Razor E300S Seated Electric Scooter

SUMMARY: The E300s is a great all-around scooter. Not only does this whip come with a seat for comfortability, it’s design is meant for simplicity. The E300s is easy-to-use right out of the box. With two 12-Volt batteries, the Razor E300s is sure to give you enough power to get you where you need to go. What’s more, the all steel frame and fork make this one of the most durable scooters available today.

As far as electric, personal transportation is concerned, the Razor E300s is one of the best scooters around. Despite their lack of top-of-the-line and new features, Razor gives a great bang-for-the-buck and is highly reliable. Furthermore, Razor’s design for the E300s is quite minimalist when compared to other mid-range scooters. The bare-bones design makes this scooter an excellent choice for first-timers, or for riders who want to look past all the bells and whistles. That said, the Razor E300S is one of the most popular scooters out on the road for a number of reasons.

Key Features

Quite frankly, the Razor E300S doesn’t have many features when compared to other scooters in the same class. But hey, it does have a seat! Alongside not offering the newest and most up-to-date features, the E300S isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing scooter either. However, with fewer features, much less can go wrong. Not to mention, its construction is sturdy and durable.

One feature that the E300S comes correct with is the size of its deck. Not only does the floor come with a non-skid grip-tape, but its also considerably full when compared to other scooters.

Overall, the construction quality of the Razor E300S is admirable.

The brushed-steel frame gives the scooter a great feel and offers a sturdy structure for the rest of the vehicle to rest upon. Where the E300S might not be the lightest scooter out there, its weight shouldn’t prove to be much of an issue for most. From the batteries to the motor to the deck, Razor made sure this scooter’s ready to hit the road and get you where you need to be. One thing to mention, it is a chain-driven motor so that it can be quite loud; especially when compared to other same-class scooters.

Another thing you’ll notice about the E300S is that Razor didn’t exactly make this scooter the Mona Lisa of scooters. In other words, the manufacturer didn’t go above-and-beyond with regards to this scooter’s detail and design. For instance, instead of streamlining their brake lines for form as well as function, Razor allowed the wires to hang loosely outside the frame. Not to mention, the clips that hold the brake lines in place are shoddily constructed, and I’m sure Razor could have done a better job making the brake lines less obtrusive.

One feature that does make the Razor E300S different from many electric scooters on the market is that it’s powered by two lead/acid-based batteries. What’s nice is that these batteries can power the motor up to an impressive 15 MPH. The respectable amount of torque makes up for the lack of acceleration seen in the E300S, and this scooter can work its way up hills quite easily too!

As for range, the E300S is commendable in this area. You can rock this puppy at full speed (15 MPH) for 40 minutes and get home in a hurry. Finally, along with its conventional construction, and primary motor configuration, this scooter’s tires are air-filled and give the rider a smooth experience, even on bumpy or less-than-perfect road conditions.

Nevertheless, despite its shortcomings in design, the Razor does bring a simplicity that many riders hold in high regard. It’s easy to set up right out-of-the-box and simple to make any necessary repairs as well.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly?

Pros

  • Bang-for-Your-Buck
  • Great Performance
  • Comfortability

Cons

  • Lack of Features
  • Loud
  • Aesthetically Not Appealing

Spec Rundown:

Weight: 52.2 lbs

Size: 41” x 17” x 42”

Top-Speed: 15 MPH

Charging Time: 8-Hours

Max Distance: 40-min Ride

Max Rider-Weight: 220 lbs.

To Summarize

The Razor E300S is a pretty decent scooter. Even though it’s very simplistic, that’s also part of its beauty. Not to mention, Razor did not skimp on this scooter’s ability to perform, that for sure! With a great range, decent top-speed, and a comfortable design, the Razor E300S is enough for most riders out there that want to commute or just want to have some fun! I personally like the bare-bones design and don’t need much more out of a scooter than that offered by Razor in this nice-and-neat little package. Check Price on Amazon.com

Ninebot Segway ES 2

SUMMARY: The Ninebot Segway ES 2 is a great choice for anyone in the market for an electric scooter. The defining feature of this electric scooter is its performance. Reaching speeds up to 15 MPH, this scooter also comes equips with shock abosorbers to give you the smoothest ride possible. Lightweight, compact, and foldable, this scooter is the perfect fit for commuters of all kinds.

The Ninebot Segway ES 2 is climbing the charts as one of the best-selling electric scooters ever produced. This electric ride is jam-packed with exciting and useful features and has some remarkable specs as well. Compared to its predecessor, this model boasts a top-speed that’s 3 MPH faster (15.5 MPH), a better motor, shocks, and awesome LEDs. This electric scooter really caught my eye when I first saw it, and I’m sure it will grab yours too!

From its customizable LEDs to the under-deck placement of lighting, the aesthetic appeal of this electric scooter is sure to impress. It also comes with the first combination battery pack ever seen in North America! Interestingly enough, the ES 2 with the battery pack is referred to as the ES 4 by Ninebot, but it’s really just the ES 2 with more juice. Furthermore, adding a battery will double the range of this monster. Despite being non-pneumatic, the complete rubber tires make sure you don’t get a flat during play or on your commute. Now, on with the features!

Key Features

Undoubtedly, the defining feature of the Ninebot Segway ES 2 is the rider’s ability to configure the LEDs however they see fit. With over a dozen LEDs, both under the deck and around the scooter, you can go with just one color, pick two, or go with every color possible. Of course, this isn’t just for aesthetic appeal, and such a lighting setup definitely adds for more safety when riding during the evening hours. What’s more, the Segway ES 2 has incredibly bright front-and-back safety lights that can be controlled manually.

The thumb-operated controls give the rider a smooth experience when changing gears on this beast, and a push-down rear-brake adds some extra user control. To the same effect, the ES 2 actually has cruise-control! That’s right! Just like your car, you can lock-in an exact speed, and the onboard computer will do the rest. I think this is an excellent feature because it can get tiring riding longer distances, especially after a hard days work; the thumb-controlled gauges and cruise control add that extra level of control to ease stress on the rider.

Additionally, the ES 2 has three speeds or modes. All three of which have their benefits and drawbacks. First, the Sports Mode gives you maximum speed and power but decreases your overall range. Next, the Standard Mode limits your top-speed but gives you a right balance between distance and speed. Finally, the Speed Limit Mode drastically reduces your top-speed but allows for maximum range.

I’d be remiss not to mention this electric scooters brake-system, which offers two types of braking mechanisms. The ES 2 comes equipped with an electrical-braking system with a main anti-lock device which allows you to stop on a dime. Alongside this effective electrical-brake system, Segway also put a fail-safe mechanical brake on this scooter. Even if you never use the manual-brake, it’s nice to know it’s there.

Finally, there’s a great app that couples with the onboard computer to take account of your usage, overall battery life, and much more. Because most scooters on the market do not come with a specially designed app, let’s take some time to look at the great features offered through this app. The Segway App has a built-in anti-theft setting where you can lock the scooter from anywhere. Obviously, this isn’t the end-all-be-all of features, but it’s a nice plus. Also, the app lets you control the lighting setup and truly customize how your ride looks. The app has features to enable and disable the cruise-control feature, keep tabs on your energy level, and even change the odometer read-out from MPH to KPH and back again. Really cool stuff!

So, what good about the Ninebot Segway ES 2 and what’s not so good?

Pros

  • Smooth Operation and Riding Experience
  • Solid Top-Speed at 15.5 MPH
  • Highly Customizable
  • Run-Flat Tires

Cons

  • Battery not great for Uphill
  • Repairs Can Prove Tedious
  • Somewhat Delicate

Some Specs

Age: 14 and Up

Max Speed: 15.5 MPH

Weight: 25 lbs.

Max Rider Weight: 220 lbs

Generally Speaking

The Ninebot Segway ES 2 is a great choice for a day out at the shops, commuting to-and-from work, or just going for a leisurely stroll. Moreover, the ES 2 take up little space and makes for an ideal travel buddy. At only 25 lbs. It can be carried around easily and starting it doesn’t require a whole lot of fussing around. In my opinion, the cruise-control function is the icing on the cake with this electric scooter. It’s really nice to be able to set-it-and-forget-it when coming home from work or if you’re just out cruising. After all, it’s just one less thing to worry about. Check Price on Amazon.com

Swagger 5

SUMMARY: The Swagger 5 is definitely one of the most unique looking scooters on the market today. With a 187-Watt Lithium-Ion Battery, this new Swagtron Model charges to completion in only 3.5 Hours and can travel up to 11 miles. This electric scooter can support riders over 300-lbs, so if you’re a big “snacker” this is the scooter for you! Another great feature surrounding the Swagger 5 is the customer service offered by the manufacturer—it’s truly top-of-the-line.

The Swagger and Swagger Pro are the first scooter put out by the company Swagtron. Even though the company is recognized for making many other types of electric vehicles, the Swagger Model is the first of its kind from this company. As a matter of fact, this company has been huge into hoverboards over the years and has only recently entered into the electric scooter niche. Their first couple scooters didn’t fair as Swagtron may have hoped, but just because their first models weren’t home-runs, doesn’t mean the company can’t put out a decent scooter.

Not only is this scooter great for beginners, but it also holds a pretty reasonable top-speed. Nevertheless, one drawback of the Swagger 5 is that it doesn’t quite have the range that other electric scooters in its class do. Regardless, this electronic transport offers consumers great value and some awesome features.

Key Features

One of the most remarkable features of the Swagger 5 is its overall weight. In fact, the Swagger 5 is one of the lightest scooter ever made! What makes this scooter, so incredibly light-weight is the carbon-fiber frame. Where another scooter tends to use only aluminum, and some even steel, the aluminum, and carbon-fiber frame of the Swagger 5 allows for it to weight in at a feather-light 17 lbs. Not only does this mean this scooters can be yanked all around town, but its great for commuters who have to go up-and-down steps for the subway or train. Additionally, the light-weight construction adds a degree of maneuverability just not seen in other scooters. In the same vein of portability, the Swagger 5 also has a useful folding feature which makes it even easier to get around town.

Another feature that sets the Swagger 5 apart from its competition is its dual-brakes. Of course, this is not to say it’s the only scooter out there with two brakes (as we’ve seen), but it’s still a really nice feature. With this in mind, the rear tire comes with a manual foot-brake that comes with most scooters. However, unlike most other scooters, the Swagger 5 comes with an on-board E-ABS system which allows you to stop with the squeeze of a handbrake. It’s nice to have a couple of options when it comes to slowing down, especially if its an emergency!

The Swagger 5 is easy to operate and very simple to learn. From the push-button throttle to the built-in cruise-control features, Swagtron stepped up with this newer model. The simple controls, accessible handbrake, and the state-of-the-art LCD screen make for an informative ride.

OK, I know what you’re thinking!

The overall design of this scooter is nothing special. Although this may be true, this scooter isn’t exactly an eye-sore either. It’s also safe, with a non-slip grip-tape on its deck and an ergonomic handle-bar design. Oh yeah, did I say it’s made out of carbon-fiber!? This really does give a great deal of strength to the frame while keeping its light-weight feel. Of course, the solid rubber tires don’t exactly make for the smoothest ride, but this scooter will get you where you need to go with its 3-gear system and 250-Watt motor.

That’s right! Three gears gives you some options when you’re moving about town. Bearing this in mind, the Swagger 5 can get up to a top speed of 15 MPH, but for efficiency’s sake, it’s best to run this one at around 8 MPH. Being able to charge the Swagtron Swagger in around 1.5-Hours completely is a really nice benefit of this scooter. This quick charging ability is not without drawbacks however, and it’s highly recommended to fully read the manual and take extra care when tending to this unit’s battery.
